Being a self-published author is great. I work when I want and get monthly passive income on all book sales.

I still remember when I hit publish for the first time. It was a mix of nervousness and excitement.

Why Traditional Publishing Sucks

My good friend’s father in law is writing a book about traveling. He got rejected from six different publishing houses!

It took him over three years to find one that would finally take his book. And get this…the publishing house will get the majority of the sales on the book!

When you go through a traditional publishing house, there are a lot of mouths to feed.

The editor, the marketing department, and the cover artist all need to be paid. This takes a BIG chunk of your profits!

However, the royalty is still low! You did all the work! You came up with the idea, developed the characters, and spent countless hours fleshing out the story.

And yet you don’t even get a majority royalty?! Where’s the justice in that!

Many authors are bypassing traditional publishing and going out for themselves. And guess what? You can/should too!

There is certainly money to be made self publishing on big platforms like Amazon KDP.

You deserve the majority royalty.

The royalty rates on most big self publishing platforms are very high (60%+). On Amazon (the largest seller of ebooks in the world), you can earn a royalty up to 70%.

2. Self publishing costs are low

When I started my self publishing erotica business, I spent less than $50 to get the business running. In fact, my largest expense was for Scrivener (the best tool any self published author can have).

The costs to publish your own book is surprisingly low. The largest expense of a self published author is likely cover design.

You can pay someone on Fiverr to design a very professional cover for $5 – $20. It would likely cost $1,000+ if you went through a publishing house.

I took the time to learn basic Photoshop and PicMonkey skills to design my own covers. All it took was a few hours on Youtube and I was good to go.

The monthly costs to maintain my business are VERY low as well.

All in all, I’m spending less than $25/month on these services! Meanwhile I’m raking in $1,700+ every single month in passive income!

I highly recommend publishing your work on Amazon Kindle Direct Publishing (KDP). Amazon sells WAY more ebooks than any other internet retailer.

I read a crazy statistic that Amazon gets over 183 million unique visitors to its site every single day! That number is probably up A LOT since I last saw it.

Imagine just taping into a fraction of all that traffic.

Selling ebooks on Amazon is a highly scalable business.

4. Earn passive income

What could be better than passive income?

Passive income is all the rage these days. And there’s nothing better than generating income while you’re sleeping, spending time with family, or vacationing.

I love the monthly checks I get from Amazon. They help me save for retirement faster.

I find writing erotica is the best form of passive income. All I do is write the story. And after that, the product sells itself.

I don’t do any marketing (other than through my newsletter). I don’t pay for advertisements and I don’t really need to “monitor” the business.
