Here are two common erotica keyword mistakes you want to avoid if you want to sell more books on Amazon….
Typically every week I get an email or two about someone who wants to sell more erotica on Amazon.
And depending on what their problem is, I have a different response.
But for new authors, the primary issue is usually one of two things.
First, your book may be in the adult dungeon. If that’s so, read this post to see how you can fix it.
The second issue is usually their their keywords.
And that’s what the focus of this blog post will be.
I work with new authors all the time (especially with those that sign up for my course).
And many of them are actually pretty good writers – certainly A LOT better than me!
But the one thing I see people struggling with a lot is KEYWORDS.
And this is a big shame because if you mess up your keywords, you could be shooting yourself in the foot big time.
It doesn’t matter if you have the best story ever written.
If your keywords aren’t targeting the right audience it will be VERY hard to make a decent monthly income with your books.
Is it possible? Sure…but it’s a very big uphill battle. And why would you want to put yourself through all the extra work and trouble?
I prefer a better approach…
The best and easiest solution to increase your sales this month is to optimize your keywords.
I will discus two common beginner erotica keyword mistakes that could be hurting your sales potential.
Don’t worry, both are super easy to fix and could potentially help your sales.
So here are two erotica keyword mistakes to avoid!
Mistake #1: Using commas
The first big mistake is using commas.
Under NO circumstance should you ever use commas with your keywords.
If you put a comma in the list of words, it will cut off at that point – meaning the other keywords past the comma will not register with Amazon.
For example, if you use a keyword chain like: “BDSM, billionaire, badboy”, the Amazon KDP system will not register any of the keywords past “BDSM”.
Obviously that is VERY BAD and you do not want that at all.
Under NO circumstances should you use commas when filling the keyword boxes with your words or phrases.
Instead, take out the commas so your keyword chain is as follows:
“BDSM Billionaire Badboy”
Trust me…I made this mistake when I first started writing erotica and it was a wonder I made any sales at all!
Once I fixed this issue, my sales improved a ton.

Mistake #2: Not using all the characters
The second mistake I see is people not using all of the allowed characters in the keyword boxes.
Each keyword box in the KDP dashboard allows the use of up to 50 characters (including spaces).
If you’re not using all of them you’re missing out BIG TIME!
Think of keywords like the lottery.
The more that you use, the higher chance you have of winning.
So why wouldn’t you use as many keywords (i.e. lottery tickets) that you are allowed by the system?
Now a lot of people will say “but, Andrew, I don’t have enough keywords to fill the 50 character limit!”
If that’s the case, I would say you need to do more research into your niche.
Look up the top authors in your niche and see what kinds of keywords they are using in their book title and description.
Compile that into a spreadsheet or word document and then narrow it down from there to the best possible keywords.
If you do that, I promise you you will not run out of space!
Erotica Keyword Mistakes – Final Thoughts
Overall, keywords are super important to your success as a self published erotica author on Amazon.
Keywords can be the difference between appearing on page 2 or page 20 of the search results.
If you fix these to mistakes, you should be able to vastly improve your monthly income within a month or two.
And if you have already thoroughly researched your keywords, this process should take less than 30 minutes.
…which means you should be able to improve your sales with relatively little work.
…but what if you haven’t thoroughly researched your keywords yet?
Well, don’t worry because I have a solution that could really help you out and give you a super unfair advantage over other authors.
You see…I have personally researched and tested keywords for several different erotica niches during my writing career.
And I have compiled my research and created keyword templates.
You can copy and paste the keywords I have researched (or you can add to them to customize it to your book specifically).
