What should your coronavrius erotica strategy be?
I’ve had a lot of people ask me about this, so I figured I would take some time to talk about this.
Specifically, I want to discuss the impact of the coronavirus on erotica and what I think your strategy should be going forward.
If you are safe and stuck at home like me, then now is the perfect time to utilize all the extra free time that you have to get ahead.
So without rambling too much, here are my thoughts o what you should do.
The impact on erotica
Now, I don’t have any hard evidence as to whether or not sales will be up or down other than from my own anecdotal evidence.
However, in April I noticed a small decline in sales across my pen names – around 10% – 15% so far. Nothing too crazy (luckily).
In terms of the future impact, I don’t think there will be a big negative impact.
In fact, I think sales will increase. As a matter of fact…I’m seeing GREAT sales in May so far.
So far during the lockdown (since around March), here’s what I have noticed:
First, outright sales of books has fallen.
However, it has been offset by a pretty sizeable increase in KENP reads.
With people locked in their homes for weeks now, they are obviously a little bored. And what do they normally do?
Well, they watch Netflix, surf the web, watch YouTube, and surprisingly read erotica. Yep, not kidding about that last one.
Kindle Select is pretty much like Netflix for books, so I’m seeing more and more people borrow books to read (as it’s a much better deal than just outright buying them).
BUT I have an even more interesting observation that I’d like to share.
I’ve noticed that a lot of authors in my niche have stopped publishing for the past few weeks or so.
And the ones that still continue to publish have not released as many books.
I’m guessing because they think no one will buy their books (and hoping it’s not because they are sick).
As I have said before, this is the PERFECT time to ramp up your writing output.

Coronavirus erotica publishing strategy
If you just maintain your writing and publishing output, you will likely come ahead of the competition.
As I have said many times before, one of the keys to success in making money writing erotica is just being consistent.
Plus, one thing is for certain, Amazon likes to prioritize new books in its search rankings.
So here’s what I recommend for your publishing schedule…
First, like always, I recommend publishing 2 times a week on Thursday and Saturday.
This allows you to hit the weekend rush – although I have to say the “weekend rush” is a bit less pronounced because lots of people aren’t working.
In general, I would say if there are no issues with your book, you can still expect to reasonably get through the review process within 24 hours (sometimes as little as 12 hours).
I still recommend publishing shorter stories (until you are more experienced) in the 3,000 – 6,000 word range.
Now, writing can be a very mentally tiring process. So I don’t recommend writing an entire book in one sitting.
Instead, I would break up the writing process into 3 times during the day.
In the morning right when you get your morning cup of coffee, bang out 300 – 500 words before eating breakfast and taking a shower.
Then right before you eat lunch, write another 300 – 500 words.
And finally, if you have the energy, write another 300 – 500 words before you go to bed.
Splitting up the writing process into smaller chucks like this is super effective and it ensures you won’t burn out as quickly.
If you can stay disciplined and follow this schedule, you’ll be able to write up to 1,500 words a day!
With that output, you’ll be able to publish consistently and increase your sales even during this epidemic (especially when other authors are publishing less).
Coronavirus Erotica Strategy – Final Thoughts
Overall, we’re pretty much living in an unprecedented time.
However, one thing is for certain: we now find ourselves with a ton of extra time.
If you and your family are safe and healthy, don’t waste all of this time just watching TV on your couch.
Even if you devote a few hours a week to the strategy I outlined, you can get way ahead of your competition.
So, what are you waiting for? Now is the best time to start!
