Have you experienced an erotica sales decline?
At some point, every erotica author will hit a plateau. Your sales start to stagnate and may even decline.
I’ve experienced this dozens and dozens of times. And trust me, it’s no fun.
You try to do a lot of little different things to get back to sales growth.
It can be VERY frustrating, especially if you are accustomed to seeing monthly increases in your earnings.
So, is there a way to fix this?
Well there are no guarantees, but I do have two strategies you should definitely try.
And if those two plans don’t work, then there’s a third strategy you can implement.
So, let’s get started and hopefully you can reverse those erotica sales declines.
Two strategies to fix this issue
Whenever I hit a plateau, I do one of two things. And if those two things don’t work, I try a final third strategy.
The first thing I do is increase my publishing output.
If I was publishing 2 ebooks a week, I’d publish 3 books a week to see if the extra book can help generate more income.
Obviously this does require quite a bit of extra work.
So, how long do you do this for? Well, I would try publishing an extra ebook a week for at least a month.
If you start to see improvement in sales again, I would slowly taper off the increased publishing schedule until you get back to your normal schedule.
If you don’t see any improvement, it’s time to implement strategy number two.
The second thing I would do is bundle some of my older books and create paperback books for the entire catalog (if it hasn’t been done already).
Bundling and paperback books are great ways to increase your earnings (and something I discuss in the Erotica Academy Course).
Again, I would try strategy number 2 for at least a month. If you don’t see an improvement in your sales again, it’s time to implement strategy number 3.

Strategy number 3 to reverse your erotica sales decline
Okay, if a month has passed after trying the previous strategies and my income has still plateaued (or declined), I would simply take a break from this pen name.
Your income may have plateaued because of reader fatigue (you have published way too many books).
If that’s the case, it may be wise to stop publishing under that pen name for a few weeks (2 – 3 weeks).
If you have been publishing consistently for a while, doing nothing and not publishing can be a hard task.
So…what should you do in the mean time?
Well, you should try publishing under a different niche/pen name.
Sometimes when I have done that and come back to the original pen name, I have seen an increase in sales when I come back.
Something important to consider
There is also something important to consider when you see your sales decline over a 1 – 2 month period.
If the niche is small, you may have just hit the saturation point. In other words, you earned the most you could in this niche.
If that’s the case, it may be wise to move on to the next niche and harvest the passive income from the old pen name over time.
Erotica Sales Decline – Final Thoughts
As an erotica author, the thing you would like to see the most is your sales increasing every single month.
Unfortunately, that is not always possible.
If you have seemingly hit a sales plateau, try out these strategies to see if you can improve your results.
