Erotica story outlines are absolutely necessary if you want to make passive income selling short stories on Amazon.
Now, if you are not used to writing a lot, getting into the habit of writing 1,000 or even 2,000 words a day can be a very hard adjustment.
However, it is absolutely necessary because publishing consistently is one of the keys to success in this game.
Yeah I know…it can be hard to sit your butt down for an hour and type those words out to create a story.
In fact, here’s a fun story about me…
In school I used to wait until the VERY last minute before I would start a writing project because I always had an issue generating ideas and physically typing out all of my thoughts.
And I hated English class and writing in general haha
But here’s the thing that I learned over the years. If you want to save valuable time you need to have a plan: more specifically an outline.
Seriously, an outline will save you A TON of time.
How to create a good story outline
My strategy for creating erotica story outlines is pretty simple.
Typically I spend one day a week (on Sunday) to create outlines for the books I will write the next week.
Now this requires you to do some research ahead of time in terms of the plot of the story and how it relates to the niche.
P.S. I usually get great ideas for story plots by reading my competitor’s books.
Anyways, typically on a Sunday I will go and write up all of the outlines for the books I will write next week.
And the outline doesn’t have to be super specific. For example, I usually only have 6 – 8 bullet points for the story.
This includes things like:
- How the main characters meet
- What is the friction between the main characters
- And some notes for the sex scene
And that’s it.

Outline Example:
An example of an outline I might use might be something like this:
- Two main characters: Tom (billionaire boss and office bad boy) and Jessica (his hot employee in the office
- They meet on her first day of work and she thinks he is hot, but a total jerk/asshole.
- They work late one night and have a “moment” after arguing – the next morning he asks her out
- Later that night, Jessica goes back to his place and notices how things are a bit off (i.e. BDSm gear all over his bedroom)
- One thing leads to another and they end up having hot sex
Pretty simple, right?
The outline doesn’t have to be anything super detailed or long.
It just needs to accomplish a few things:
- Get your thoughts of the general outline and flow of the story onto paper
- Come up with all the main characters and their motivation
- Have a rough story for you to follow when you finally type everything out.
Why an outline is necessary…
The thing is, if you take the time to create an outline, you are already writing the story in your head.
And this makes the story flow a lot better from your head onto the computer screen.
Trust me. If you don’t have anything down and write by the seat of your pants, it will take MUCH longer.
This is because you have to go back and edit sections that didn’t flow correctly.
Having an outline solves this entire process because you have already developed and flushed out the story.
Plus, if you take a break between writing (for a day or two), you will still have your notes written down.
I can’t tell you how many times I had a good idea in my head and forgot about it a few days later!
Erotica Story Outlines – Final Thoughts
Overall, creating a story outline BEFORE you start writing will save you a bunch of time.
It will make your story flow a lot better and cut down on the writing time.
So if you want to run like a well oiled erotica producing machine, create an outline for your next book!
